Obedience

1) “Ordinary people who faithfully, diligently and consistently do simple things that are right before God will bring forth extraordinary results.” (Elder David A. Bednar, 29 Apr. 2011, “By Small and Simple Things Are Great Things Brought to Pass,” BYU Women’s Conference, http://ce.byu.edu/cw/womensconference/archive/2011/pdf/Elder_David_A._Bednar.pdf

2) “Obedience allows God’s blessings to flow without constraint.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, May 2011, “Face the Future With Faith,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/2011/05/face-the-future-with-faith?lang=eng)

3) “When we love the Lord, obedience ceases to be a burden. Obedience becomes a delight.” (Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin, Nov. 2007. “The Great Commandment,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/2007/11/the-great-commandment?lang=eng)

4)  “My desire to know and do His will gave me a soul-stretching opportunity.” (President Henry B. Eyring, November 2012, “Where Is the Pavilion?”, Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/2012/11/where-is-the-pavilion?lang=eng)

5)  “In our diligent efforts to fulfill all of the duties and obligations we take on as members of the Church, we sometimes see the gospel as a long list of tasks that we must add to our already impossibly long to-do list, as a block of time that we must somehow fit into our busy schedules. We focus on what the Lord wants us to do and how we might do it, but we sometimes forget why... The ‘why’ of obedience sanctifies our actions, transforming the mundane into the majestic. It magnifies our small acts of obedience into holy acts of consecration.” (President Dieter F. Uchtdorf, Nov. 2011, “Forget Me Not,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/2011/11/forget-me-not?lang=eng)

6) “Some people do not obey because they feel their free agency will be trampled upon if they consider themselves subservient to Church authorities or enter into binding ordinances. Others willfully choose an existence of being 'contrary to the nature of happiness'. (Alma 41:11.) Still others, products of an undisciplined life, persist in their weaknesses and justify their course of action by shrugging and saying, ‘That’s just the way I am’. Disobedience to God and His chosen servants ignores the fact that we are all the children of an Eternal Father who has endowed us with the capacity to be as He and His Son Jesus Christ are—perfected, glorified, holy personages. Often we forget that obedience must be learned. Even Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, learned perfect obedience, which qualified Him to serve as our Lawgiver and Lord.” (Elder Delbert L. Stapley, November 1977, “The Blessings of Righteous Obedience,” Ensign, http://www.lds.org/ensign/1977/11/the-blessings-of-righteous-obedience?lang=eng)

7)  “The Master could overwhelm us with His supernal knowledge, but He does not. He honors our agency. He allows us the joy of discovery. He encourages us to repent of our own mistakes. He permits us to experience the freedom that comes from our willing obedience to His divine law. Yes, the way He uses His knowledge provides a great example for us.” (Elder Russell M. Nelson, April 2013, “The Mission and Ministry of Jesus Christ,” Liahona, https://www.lds.org/liahona/2013/04/the-mission-and-ministry-of-jesus-christ?lang=eng&query=obedience)

8)  “Spirituality yields two fruits. The first is inspiration to know what to do. The second is power, or the capacity to do it. These two capacities come together. That’s why Nephi could say, ‘I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded.’ [ 1 Nephi 3:7.] He knew the spiritual laws upon which inspiration and power are based. Yes, God answers prayer and gives us spiritual direction when we live obediently and exercise the required faith in Him.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, Nov. 2009. “To Acquire Spiritual Guidance,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/2009/11/to-acquire-spiritual-guidance?lang=eng)

9)  “You are here on earth for a divine purpose. It is not to be endlessly entertained or to be constantly in full pursuit of pleasure. You are here to be tried, to prove yourself so that you can receive the additional blessings God has for you. The tempering effect of patience is required. Some blessings will be delivered here in this life; others will come beyond the veil. The Lord is intent on your personal growth and development. That progress is accelerated when you willingly allow Him to lead you through every growth experience you encounter, whether initially it be to your individual liking or not. When you trust in the Lord, when you are willing to let your heart and your mind be centered in His will, when you ask to be led by the Spirit to do His will, you are assured of the greatest happiness along the way and the most fulfilling attainment from this mortal experience. If you question everything you are asked to do, or dig in your heels at every unpleasant challenge, you make it harder for the Lord to bless you.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, May 1996, “Finding Joy in Life,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/1996/05/finding-joy-in-life?lang=eng)

10)  “When you take the path that climbs, that harder path of the Savior, there are rewards along the way. When you do something right, when you resist temptation, when you meet a goal, you will feel very good about it. It is a very different kind of feeling than you have when you violate commandments—an altogether different feeling. It brings a measure of peace and comfort and provides encouragement to press on.” (Elder Richard G. Scott, May 1990, “Finding the Way Back,” Ensign, https://www.lds.org/ensign/1990/05/finding-the-way-back?lang=eng)
